Sewanee Hospitality Shop Finds

Filed under: books, found objects — admin @ 8:36 pm

I had very little cash at Sewanee. Luckily, the Sewanee Hospitality Shop’s prices are very low and conveniently located next to my ex-dorm, Benedict. For 25 cents I was able to purchase this awesome 1946 schoolbook, which features none other than Dick and Jane. The lady who ran the shop said she used to teach out of it - in fact, it could have been her students’ copy since Sewanee is a small town where change is slow. It also has a questionable description by a previous young owner:

Also, I worship Country Living. Whatever the magazine says, I try to fully comply with. In their recent issue, they discussed the importance of picnic baskets. My mother bought one for me, complete with plates, and I have set about trying to stock it with novelty items. I saw some cute vintage napkins that reminded me of a sweet old lady and knew I had to have them. I asked the gentleman there how much they were and he actually said “Dear heart, for you 15 cents.” So, anyway, that took me back to Wyatt’s “They Flee from Me” and made it impossible to say no. Yay picnics!
