Handmade Candy Wrapper Paper

I finally made my first sheet of paper in my bookmaking class. I think the plant fibers are abaca. The paper is a lot more blue in real life. I put chic-o-stick wrappers in it because my next book is candy themed. I am going to see if I can use the sheet to make covers n

Material Word Exhibit: Fall for the Book 2009

Come see two pieces of my art at the Material Word exhibit at the year’s Fall for the Book Festival (See a preview of one of the pieces below).

Material Word: Book Arts and Visual Poetry

Description: How do you read without words? write with metal? fold a poem into being? “Material Word” features artist’s books, altered books, visual poems, and poem-objects by Mason students, alumni, and faculty, including students of Mason’s School of Art Book Arts courses and of the English Department’s Bookish Beasts and Concrete Visual Collage courses. Work by some of the writers featured in this year’s Fall for the Book will also be on view. Artists include Jennifer Fairfax, Ashley Ford, Johanna Mueller, Eric Pankey, Nancy Pearson, Alison Strub, Erwin Thamm, and more. Wooden Trench Art Bracelet

I’m supposed to avoid eBay but this trench art bracelet was a $1! It is also wooden, which is different. It is from WWII and decorated all around (it looks painted by hand). The auction only said that it is “Probably French.” It does say “Vive Les Allies” and has flowers painted on it as well as Allied flags (including the Soviet flag). I figured that I’d wear it but now I’m afraid the paint will chip. Hmm.
